PPP: Investing In A Macbook and How it's helped my practice

Before Christmas was a literal nightmare, my trusty laptop of 7 years was beginning to fail me, first by deleting numerous word files and updating at random but also by the fact it had the processing speed of an old tiny donkey pulling a heavy cart up a mountain in 40 degree plus weather. Pretty brutal right? Investing in a macbook was something that I had intended to do since the July but with costs for living over summer in leeds and having to buy other new art materials for the september.. there simply wasn't enough left in the purse strings to stretch. However I start to save, and tried staying late after uni to practice my digital skills with my wacom (the irony that I have something as awesome as a wacom and no time at home to practice with it was painful).
Now my digital skills have come a long way since second year, I now always label my photoshop layers, I can use most of the adobe suite without too much hassle but having a wacom & mac at home combined would be amazing.

Finally at the end of January I had enough money to buy a macbook (WOOHOO) and promptly did so (twice infact because the first one was faulty).
Having a macbook in my home has made a big difference to not only my work ethic but also my digital skills as well. I can now create pieces like these

at home without having to worry about getting cold/hungry in the studio after hours. This example took me around 2.5 hours to make start to finish, but that's with a new set of photoshop brushes to play with, something that previously I didn't know were that big of a deal.

note to self: Photoshop brushes are a big deal
They have completely changed how my work looks and it can now look slightly less digitalised but still give me the power to jig around with layers and opacity.

So yeah in conclusion joining the apple macbook elite has :
  • Given me confidence to make digital artwork for not only myself but others
  • Allowed me time to work outside of uni/studio hours
  • Allowed me to experiment with brushes that other artists have suggested to me but I didn't realise were such a big dealio, a friend gave me their downloaded brushes for free (V nice of them)
