Iraville ( Ira Sluyterman van Langeweyde ) is one of those that get into my elusive Favourite Illustrators Bookmark tab.
My first favourite thing is her aesthetic, she works primarily in watercolour but occasionally Giclee as well. Her colour palettes are always extensively worked out to either compliment each other or draw attention to the character she is drawing.
Ira is an illustrator who lives in Munich, Germany. She does drawings for both herself and clients (often editorial spots or commissions). She is extremely well documented, which is part of the reason she is part of the favourite artist club. She covers a lot of social media but is constant with the updates of every one (very important) branching onto tumblr, twitter, instagram as well as deviant art, youtube AND facebook. that a whole lot of blogging.. im not sure I'd have that kind of ambition.. but I sure aspire too.
As mentioned before she makes work for herself to sell in an etsy shop, this is a part of her practice that I would like to replicate in my own. Making stuff for yourself is crucial to being a good artist, and Iraville does this (and often youtube tutorials it too!).
What I love about her practice is that it is so accessible to see how something has been made, why those colours have been chosen and .. on the odd few projects.. how it has physical been made (oh the joys of youtube).
I love that her work is recognisable but also applyable to many different aspects. She works in editorial as well as working in product. She also works in character design as well (as she has feature on her blogs)
A practice as immense and detailed as this, does not form overnight. This is part of the appreciation of it all, however it is a practice I would like to replicate. Having a style that is my own but being able to be fluid in my choice of where it goes, whether it is in product, editorial or personal.
