What do I want to know/ Why?
1. How can I improve my organisational skills?
I want to become tidier and more time considerate. It will help when I reach end of modules rather than having to search for work it would be helpful is I was more organised and didn't have to rush anything.
FDBK(feedback): Keep a diary, set alarms, create a timetable with all the deadlines on,
buy folders and post it notes, colour code items.
2. How can I be more involved/aware of the illustration world?
I want to know the answer to this because as of current I don't feel like I am connected to the illustration world and don't really know what is trending. Once I know this, I think my own work will improve.
FDBK: Follow artists on instagram. Join pinterest, look up the recommended websites from the college website, from there start to create a web of websites to look at, create a bookmark especially for illustration. Visit the college library and look at the magazines and note up and coming artists. Look for competitions, enter or just look at the entries.
3. How do I make the most of my time?
I want to know this because I think it's important not just as an illustrator but as an individual to be able to make the most of my time and produce more work.
create a schedule and stick to it, make time for food breaks and make time for enjoyment breaks.
4. How can I improve my drawing skills?
It's important that I keep trying to improve these as I'm not quite sure what kind of illustrator I am yet drawing is still and important part.
To help improve this I will carry a sketchbook with me at all times and spend more time in the day trying to record my experiences. It might be helpful to go to a drawing life class or doing some still life at home.
5. How can I find new illustrators/ other practitioners and learn about their practice?
This is important to know as it will help if I know more about individuals practice to inform my own.
This can be achieved by going to Big Heads and visiting COP lectures. As well as this, going to museums and galleries more often might give me the chance to see more medias and possibly meet the artists.
6. How can I improve my personal style?
I want to know this as I want to get better and to start developing something that looks distinctive. Although not essential at this time, its something I want to learn in the future.
I can do this through practice and exploration of new medias, it will also help if I keep a personal sketchbook and keep practicing and picking up on the things I like most.
7. How to start up a online shop?
I want to know this so that I can start progressing my work to a point where I can sell it online and get it out into the world.
I could learn to do this by signing up for the college's programmes that teach enterprise. Once I have the basic grasp I can contact other people over social media to ask how they have done it and start to produce work to sell.
8. How to improve my digital skills?
I want to know this so that I can start to make work that is more digital just so that if I get a proffessional job I will be able to know how to use basic functions.
I can do this by going to lessons provided by the college but also looking up tutorials online and investing in the right programmes and materials.
9. How to improve my motivation/ stay focused?
I want to find the answer to this because sometimes I feel distanced from work and would like to know how to remain focused.
A way I could tackle this is speaking to student support when I'm stuck but also contributing to group crits and getting the opinions of my peers. Giving myself small study breaks will be helpful also.
10. How to make the best of the college's facilities?
I want to know all we have on offer and what we can use etc.
I can find this out by talking to tutors in different parts of the college and talking to the technicians about what we can achieve (sizes, textures etc) in terms of products and prices.
