SB1: Reflective Practice: Best New Artists

Best new artists I have found this year (and what I have learnt from them).

Nina Cosford

This is one of my favourite new illustrators I have found, and have referred to a lot over the past few weeks. I really like her use of media (markers) and how she creates basic people that have a lot of emotion behind them. Her work isn't super proportional which made me feel better about not being able to draw "realistically" but her work is well compositioned and thought out. She not only does a little illustrated series but also turns her work into something marketable (waitrose maps she has just released). This is something I have looked into doing as a result of learning about her.

Madeline Flores

Madeline is one of my favourites to follow on media as she creates really funny witty little pieces on the side of her main job (she has drawn for dreamworks and nickelodeon). She has a lot of motivation and often answers questions about her work which is always interesting and helpful, one of the main skills I have learnt from her is that when you draw something wrong but dont have time to redraw it, if you cut a piece of paper out and put it over the top you can save yourself time and just sort it out in photoshop. I really like how her personality enhances her work and that's something I would like to learn myself personally.
