Part One - 200 Words
The Website I chose was theaoi.com, the association of Illustrators website. The website was relevant to my personal practice as it showcases a variety of different illustrators illustrating different mediums. I think it's important to look at illustrators as a whole rather than just individual circles such as editorial or book publishing. The AOI also show portfolios which I personally found very useful, they helped to inform what sort of work you should include in a portfolio and examples of what to exhibit. The AOI website advertises up and coming illustrators and exhibitions (such as the Ladybird by Design exhibition in May 2015) which is helpful to me because it then gives me dates and times to visit and tips on which days to go (if there is something extra on that day). I am currently more interested in book publishing and character design and I think that this website (out of the three given) shows more examples of these than the others that showed more editorial illustration which is something I'm not focused on in the present. AOI offers opportunities to illustrators who aren't as recognised, they do this by an exhibition and an awards ceremony. Although I want my illustration practice to mean more than an award, it is an ambition for my work to receive an award from the AOI as it's a very recognised association and it has many entrants every year it would be an achievement.
